At Domain Homes, our team is our family, and when our family needs help, we all pitch in. Our own New Homes Specialist, Michele Brigandi and her family can use all of our help right now with the Blue Jeans for Bone Marrow fundraiser.
Michele’s 2-year old grandson, Logan Hooker has an un-diagnosed blood disorder that requires him to have day-long blood transfusions every couple of weeks. The cheerful toddler calls the hospital his second home, where Michele’s daughter, Amanda and he spend quite a bit of their time. According to doctors, Logan’s only possible cure is a bone marrow transplant that has been scheduled for this summer, which will most likely keep him there for six months or longer.
Joyful Hearts Preschool, where Logan’s brother, Ashton is a student, has created a denim drive to help cover some of the cost of Logan’s hospital stay and surgery. The school plans to sell the jeans they receive as donations in order to finance some of the family’s bills.
Currently, the Blue Jeans for Bone Marrow drive has raised over 300 pairs of jeans for Logan. We are trying to help reach their goal of 5,000 pairs by the middle of this month. At Domain Homes, we have a deep appreciation for art, sculptures and statues. That is why we are so excited that George Sugarman’s untitled abstract statue, popularly known as “The Exploding Chicken” is being reassembled in the Channel District round-about, just north of the Florida Aquarium.
The 19-ton, 36-foot tall steel and aluminum sculpture resided at Kennedy Boulevard and Ashley Drive for 22 years before it was dismantled in 2010. Most of the labor and materials for the relocation effort were donated, according to Mayor Bob Buckhorn. The Exploding Chicken will be refreshed once it is reassembled with a new coat of paint.

Domain Homes and the New Domain Living team are big supporters of our military. Being so close to MacDill Air Force Base, we have helped many military members and their families find the homes of their dreams. There has been big news in the military community in the Tampa Bay area as Marine General James Mattis (left) relinquished command to Army General Lloyd Austin III (center) on Friday, March 22.
The ceremony, held at MacDill Air Force Base, anointed Austin as the new commander of Centcom, which is the headquarters for U.S. military operations in the Middle East. He is taking over as the majority of U.S. forces are slated to leave Afghanistan next year after more than a decade of war and the transitioning of security responsibilities to the Afghan people.
Held under tight security, the ceremony was attended by dignitaries and high-ranking military officials, including Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel (right). The new Centcom commander said, “it really is wonderful to be back here in Tampa and be part of this special community”.

The Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles had the Cinderella story of a lifetime during the NCAA tournament. Virtually unknown before last month, the Eagles entered the tournament as a 15 seed before upsetting number 7 seed San Diego State and regional number 2 seed Georgetown.
Before the tournament, many people, including some players who were being recruited by the school, had no idea where Florida Gulf Coast is located. Just 150 miles south of Tampa, the bracket-busting Eagles have certainly made their mark on the map. Domain Homes congratulates the Eagles on making it into the Elite 8, it was truly amazing to watch.

The weather and the South Tampa real estate market are heating up!
A clip on the news recently showed some unfortunate drivers slowly sliding down a snowy street in New Jersey. While the news anchors chuckled that it looked like a slow motion game of ice bumper cars, we at Domain Homes were enjoying the sunshine and temperatures in the high 70’s!
It may be the refreshing weather or possibly the job opportunities, but something has the Tampa Bay real estate market buzzing lately. At Domain Homes, we closed a record year in 2011, and 2012 has already started off with a bang. This is in no small part to our wonderful team. Lydia Graff, pictured here,

Domain Homes had a remarkable year of home sales with revenues exceeding seven million. December was one of the strongest months with 9 sales. 2011 was Domain’s first full year in the Tampa market and our customers have had great things to say about our team and the homes we build. In response to strong positive trends, we expanded our operations team, started a real estate brokerage division, hosted several successful events, sponsored events for well-known local charities, and opened a new model home in our Southtown Park community.

TV producers can stop showing real estate market graphs with a plunging red arrow. It seems that the temperature of the real estate market is improving and there have been newsworthy trends of stabilization and recovery.
According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR) who just released their latest pending home sales index, the housing market is strengthening.
The group that tracks every imaginable home sales metric including ‘homes under contract’ and ‘contracts cancelled’ is particularly excited about the fact that the pending home sales index was up at the end of 2011. They’re also excited that the index broke the 100 mark for only the second time since the housing bubble burst. The last time it was above 100 was when the home owner tax credit was in effect (April 2010). The fact that the index has returned to that level without any such stimulus means that the market is strengthening from a natural, organic power. Affordability, historically low interest rates and job creation are all believed to be contributing factors. With home sales picking up and prices stabilizing, many experts such as NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun believe that this recovery is sustainable.
The broader national economy has shown positive signs as well including the all-important jobs picture. With unemployment claims falling and new jobs being created at approximately 100,000 per month, that could provide the support needed for home sales going forward.
Finally, it seems that the housing market is heading in the right direction for 2012.

Lydia Graff of Domain Homes recently helped a military couple who are temporarily split between Fort Hood, Texas and Tampa’s MacDill Air Force base. During her visit to Tampa, one of the officers was shown a home built by Domain Homes. She loved what she saw! However, her husband who is still in Texas needed more than photos and a floorplan to make such an important decision with her.

All eyes were on the skies for the MacDill AIRFEST in South Tampa on November 5th and 6th. MacDill Air Force Base, located in Tampa, FL, hosted the air show which featured flybys, flyovers, and breathtaking demonstrations of various aircraft including the world-famous US Air Force Thunderbirds.
Domain Homes treated Tampa Bay real estate agents to free food and drinks and the best seat to watch the show. Then on Sunday, we were honored to host our current homeowners and military families from around the bay area. A great time was had by all!
